Brown Bag

After the trials surrounding the Retro Bag I wanted to make things uncharacteristically easy for myself. With a few larger pieces of scrap leather I decided to make a very simple bag. Just kind of an envelope shape. Quick and easy, you might think... But if you know me even a little, you would know that simple is never the path I choose 🤭. For the catch I incorporated a magnet in the bag and in the flap. The tip of the flap wasn't nice enough, so I added a metal finish over it. It is scrap leather, so there is damage to the leather on one edge of the bag. Well, I still had enough small pieces of the same color left, surely I could make something nice out of them? I cut it into strips and started braiding with 4 strands. I had never done that before, all the more reason to give it a try. This worked well and I turned it into a decorative strip on the back. For the shoulder strap, I had my eye on a few weathered pieces of white strap with gray lettering. It took me several attempts to put these together in a neat and sturdy manner. That ended up being the most time-consuming part of the entire bag! So much for my 'simple' project 😉.

The bag is made of brown leather, the inside is lined with off-white linen. For the catch I used magnets that are stitched in, invisible. The shoulder strap is made of pieces of belt combined with metal links. The bag is approximately 24 cm x 20 cm (H x W).
