Fore Edge Painting Lighthouse

This is the first time I have painted a novel instead of an empty notebook. For those who know the book 'Shutter Island' by Dennis Lehane or have seen the movie, know that the lighthouse plays a major role in the story. I had been planning to try this fore edge painting for a few years, but I never had the time. Once you start you have to finish it within a few days, otherwise the book will deform in the clamp. In addition, I am not (yet) very skilled in drawing and painting, so I had to gather some courage before starting 😅

As you can see the image is still visible when the book is closed. Until now I have made paintings on books that were pre-gilded. This allows you to see the image a tiny bit. To make the image disappear completely, the page edges must be gilded after applying the painting. I am told that gilding page edges is very difficult... so I'm going to give it a try with this book 😆. To be continued…

Bedankt voor het mooie compliment! Het is een bijzondere techniek, ontspannend en stressvol tegelijkertijd. Maar als het lukt is het resultaat de moeite waard!
