Retro Bag

This bag had been lying in a closet, unfinished for several years. I quickly got the basic shape together at the time. The leftover pieces of orange-brown and mustard-yellow leather reminded me of colors from the 1970s. I also had some pieces of black leather and faux leather. For the inside I found a piece of fabric with a leaf or fan pattern that matched it well. So far so good. Then why did it take me so long to finish it? I only had very small pieces left from which I made the lid. I experimented with different variations until I was satisfied. When there were even more small pieces left, I couldn't resist making a very small wallet. The next challenge was to come up with a suitable lid and add the shoulder strap. I had made a temporary closure, so it was not yet permanently attached, because I was still trying to figure out what would work best. A friend came to visit and wanted to see what projects I was working on, she loves bags. I showed the bag to her and said: “Be careful because it's not put together yet…” You guessed it, with one pull the attachment and part of the bag fell apart 😞. So I put it back in the closet. But eventually i wanted to work on it again and I finished the bag. Because I didn't have any suitable leftover pieces for a shoulder strap, I used one from another worn-out bag. I think it is quite successful and I have learned my lesson: don't put projects in other people's hands until they are finished 😅.

The bag is made of rust brown, mustard yellow and black leather and a few pieces of black imitation leather. The inside of the bag is lined with a stretch fabric. I used square, light brown cord for the closure. The wallet is made with the same materials and is finished with a black metal zipper. The bag has a diameter of approximately 15 cm and a height of approximately 23 cm (D x H). The wallet is approximately 8 cm by 8.5 cm (H x W).
