Hand-embroidered Cat phone case

I had had a fabric phone case for years, I bought it in Venice one day. It showed a simple image of a black cat, in the style of 'le chat noir'. But the edges started to fray and the image became increasingly faded, it was time for a new one. A good opportunity for a small project. I had a nice piece of denim that would be just enough for a phone case. And by now I had also mastered cross stitch quite well, so I had been thinking about trying a different embroidery technique. I didn't have to think long about the image. A while ago I made a cross stitch kit: Peeking Cat, I think it's such a funny image, I used it as my starting point. I copied the image onto water-soluble embroidery fabric and pinned it to the fabric. I deliberately chose not to embroider the images in the same place and to give the cats different coloured ears. I used a satin stitch for the embroidery. That is quite a quick technique, but shapes are difficult. The cats are therefore a little special here and there 😅, but that is what gives them personality! I will definitely practice this technique more often.

The case is made of stretch denim, lined with black linen. I used DMC thread for the embroidery. The case is 17 cm x 9 cm (H x W).
